Clunio marinus strains emerge only during one of the two daily low tides, either during the morning or daytime low tide (Circadian Rhythm Type 1) or during the evening or nighttime low tide (Circadian Rhythm Type 2).

With respect to the lunar cycle, Clunio marinus starins either emerge only during new moon (Circalunar Rhythm Type NM), only during full moon (Type FM) or during both full and new moon ("semilunar"; Type SL).
